Please join us for a two-part celebration of green building "why" and "how" with an evening 'keynote' on REGENERATIVE DESIGN by Bill Reed, author of The Integrative Design Guide to Green Building.

LEED changed our awareness of the unwanted side-effects of building design, construction and operations.  Reduction of harm was the standard. That approach has, in many ways, transformed the marketplace, but is it still enough?  What is an appropriate goal for the future?

Under the guidance of regenerative design principles, it is possible to design projects in harmony with their ecosystem. Projects that improve their environment, are impact-free, and anticipate future needs. Regenerative design, began in the 70’s but is gaining widespread popularity based on measured performance on the Living Building Challenge. Regenerative goes beyond sustainable and restorative actions by looking for ways to return what has been lost in the building process.

This presentation will introduce the concept of Regenerative Design related to the Patterns of Living Systems:

The real meaning of development is to 'create new potential.’ With this perspective and practice we have seen entire ecosystems and communities begin healing the damage within 18 months.

Also a part of this event is a free workshop on implementing Integrative Design on Thursday, April 19, 2012.
