Zero Net Energy Retrofits

This session will focus on the interative process and analyses necessary to set appropriate ZNE goals and align stakeholders when planning for and implementing retrofit projects. Through this workshop you'll gain an understanding of ZNE regulations and CA energy goals in addition to an approach for reaching them. 

Topics covered will include:

•Define appropriate ZNE or energy goals for a facility?

•Identify key strategies towards achieving energy goals

•Apply ZNE planning principles

•Understand policy goals, rebates and financing programs available 

This class is eligible for continuing education units from the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

Speaker: Douglas Kot AIA, LEED Faculty, is the Head of Section for DNV GL’s Sustainable Buildings and Communities team. Doug is the former Executive Director of San Diego Green Building Council and a returning employee to DNV-GL Sustainable Buildings and Communities team. Doug has been involved with green building and sustainable planning since 1998; he has been at the forefront of advancements in the discipline since that time. Doug has led the technical development of dozens of high-performance and zero net energy buildings advising on energy systems, water efficiency and reuse, material impacts and healthy interiors. Doug has professional degrees in architecture, landscape architecture and city planning. He has chaired the City of San Diego’s Economic and Environmental Sustainability Task Force that has developed a Climate Action Plan. He is a member of the City of San Diego Sustainable Energy Advisory Board, other climate- and energy-related advisory boards, and local non-profits including the San Diego U.S. Green Building Council. Doug currently teaches in the Sustainable Business Certificate and Facility Management Certificate programs at University of California San Diego Extension. He is USGBC Faculty and is a LEED Accredited Professional for Neighborhood Development, Buildings Design and Construction and Existing Building Operations and Maintenance.
